National Dance Day is this Saturday, July 26. National Dance Day is an annual celebration that takes place on the last Saturday in July and was created by 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe of “So You Think You Can Dance” fame with the intention of encouraging Americans to “embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.”
If you’re reading this blog, I’m guessing you’re already embracing dance. National Dance Day is an opportunity to share dance with others in a really accessible way. There are local events planned in cities across the country, often with free classes and/or demonstrations.
There’s even a home version. The So You Think You Can Dance crew have routines posted that you can learn from the privacy of your living room. In a super cool move, they also posted a seated version that makes a National Dance Day routine accessible for all abilities. Learn them here.
