It’s Holiday Break Time!

It’s the time of year again, holidays approaching, winter concert over and time off from the dance studio. What does that mean for your dance training?

You should absolutely enjoy the season, so eat, rest & be merry – it only comes around once a year! However, it’s also really important to stay engaged with your body, so that your first dance class in the new year starts off on the right foot. Basically, if you spend the whole break on the couch, you’re not going to feel your best dance self when you get back to the barre in January.

You don’t have to give yourself a full barre at home…although if that sounds good to you, go for it! Other types of movement can be beneficial to you as dancer. Your winter break is a great opportunity to try out fitness videos, strength training or even yoga – wonderful complimentary training to dance! It utilizes similar muscles in different ways and further forges a mind-body connection. For me, personally, yoga has also helped cultivate gratitude for what my body can do. In short, just remember to move! It’ll make you feel better if you overindulged with the holiday treats and will definitely make your first week back in class an easier transition.

Do you have break goals? Or are you able to truly take off?
