January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and today marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
Probably not what you expected to read on Dance Orlando, but this is an important milestone to commemorate. This day of remembrance tasks us to learn more about our shared history, to remember the victims, to hear the stories of survivors (like this one, from a former ballerina asked to dance while imprisoned), and to confront injustice, genocide and racism where we find them.
Art is often a powerful way to work through the pain of the past and certainly, and we here at Dance Orlando encourage all artists to continue to speak and express their truth.
The body says what words cannot.
