Moore Dance Project’s Sacred Slave Stories
Produced by The Center for Contemporary Dance and developed under the artistic leadership of Dario J. Moore, Moore Dance Project’s Sacred Slave Stories is a series of contemporary dance vignettes based on interviews the the nation’s last generation of African-American slaves, as archived by the Federal Writers’ Project (1936-1938).  Appropriate for all ages, each vignette is accompanied by readings from corresponding slave narratives, recorded by veteran film actor Harry Burney and radio personality Monica May.  Sacred Slave Stories has been presented to more than 15,000 audience members since its debut in 2011, with critical acclaim from community leaders, educators and dance professionals alike.  This performance is followed by a dialogue with Artistic Director Dario J. Moore.  Cost: $1,250 per performance

A limited number of free in-school assembly performances of Sacred Slave Stories are available on a first-come, first-served basis for Orange County Public Schools (grades 3-12).  Note: Presentations for young audiences are modified to exclude controversial language and costuming. Lesson plans developed in accordance with Common Core Standards are included.
